What do I clean my kitchen hoods with?

How to Clean Kitchen Cooker Hoods?

Cleaning a cooker hood is essential to ensure the appliance operates efficiently, quietly, and for a long time. Here are our tips on how to clean kitchen cooker hoods.

Kitchen cooker hoods are made from several key materials, most commonly:

  • Stainless steel INOX: chrome-nickel steel is durable and resistant to mechanical damage, high temperature, and moisture; typically, steel of 0.5-0.8 mm thickness is used

  • Tempered glass: clear or tinted, white or black, flat or curved

  • Lacquered steel in any colour

Some cooker hoods are also made from ceramics, various plastics, wood, aluminium, decorative glass, laminate, Cristaplant, or even perforated fabric.

How to Clean Stainless Steel Cooker Hoods?

The addition of nickel gives the surface a shine. The thicker the steel sheet, the more solid and stable the hood. The finish on INOX steel varies in texture.

Stainless steel INOX hoods are best cleaned with a soft cloth using special products designed to maintain the surface. We recommend using Berner Inox spray. Regular use of the spray will thoroughly clean and preserve the steel.

Berner spray can be used to clean both matte and polished surfaces. The product eliminates dirt, dust, and fingerprints. The steel elements of the hood will be clean, shiny, and protected, as the spray leaves a thin protective layer that prevents dirt adhesion for a long time and has antistatic properties. Berner spray will highlight the natural beauty of this noble material.

How to Clean Glass Cooker Hoods?

Tempered glass is a very common material used for cooker hoods. It can be shaped in various forms depending on the designers' creativity and optimal technical parameters. The modular construction of some hoods makes it easy to detach the glass element for thorough cleaning.

The tempering process involves heating the glass to a very high temperature (up to 640 °C) and rapidly cooling it with compressed air. This process enhances the glass's strength, making it harder, yet more flexible and elastic. It is also safer than regular glass. If it breaks, it shatters into small pieces rather than sharp shards. Tempered glass has increased durability and thermal resistance (from -50 to +200 °C). The edges of the glass in hoods are polished.

For cleaning glass hoods, we recommend Berner Active spray. It effectively removes streaks and dirt from hood surfaces. It has high performance and a creamy consistency. Its innovative formula cleans glass surfaces of dirt, dust, grease, and fingerprints. It leaves no streaks and has antistatic properties. Besides cooker hoods, it can also be used to clean windows, mirrors, headlights, and other glass surfaces. For very stubborn dirt, leave the product on the surface for a few minutes before wiping it off with a cloth or paper towel.

How to Clean Lacquered Steel Cooker Hoods?

Lacquered steel used in cooker hoods is powder-coated in a chosen colour. This technology ensures no drips, and the colour is uniform. Globalo can paint your hood in any colour you like.Red lacquered steel - GLOBALO CYLINDRO ISOLA hood

The lacquered steel used in kitchen hoods is resistant to corrosion, high temperatures, and mechanical damage. Powder coating technology involves applying paint to a thoroughly cleaned steel surface using electrostatic or electrokinetic spray methods.White lacquered steel - GLOBALO NOMINA wall-mounted hood

To clean lacquered steel hoods in various colours, we recommend Berner Wonderclean spray. This product contains silicone, polishes, and leaves a protective layer. It is very efficient, so just a small amount is enough to clean the hood, after which the entire surface can be cleaned with a soft cloth. Then, polish the hood with a clean, dry cloth until the desired shine is achieved. If the hood is only slightly dirty, simply spray the cloth.

How to Clean Metal Filters in the Hood?

Metal filters in a kitchen hood trap grease particles from the air, which accumulate on the aluminium mesh that the filters are made of. The more intense the cooking, the quicker the meshes clog, and the hood becomes less effective.

We recommend washing metal filters once a month. Simply remove them from the hood by grasping the appropriate handle. Metal filters can be washed by hand with dishwashing liquid or in a dishwasher set to a low temperature, without other dishes inside.

Cleaning a kitchen hood also involves dusting that collects on metal covers (chimneys) if using a hood connected to ventilation.

A regularly cleaned and maintained hood will last for many years. Spending a few minutes removing accumulated dirt will ensure you enjoy clean and healthy air at home, as well as a stylish appliance. The kitchen is a place where meals are prepared, so make sure it remains hygienic.
