A hood without an extractor, or how an extractor works

Ductless Cooker Hood: How a Recirculating Hood Works

A ductless cooker hood is a device not connected to a ventilation duct. It requires only a carbon filter to function properly.

Kitchen hoods are divided into two main types:

  • ductless hoods, also known as recirculating hoods: they operate in a closed system, filtering the air through an additional (apart from the metal) carbon filter and returning it to the kitchen

  • extraction hoods, which are connected via a duct to a ventilation system (chimney) - to function correctly, they require a clear airflow and operate with a standard metal filter (usually aluminium), which captures grease and dirt particles

It is often said that extraction hoods are more effective and quieter than ductless hoods. However, the truth is that today's recirculating hoods, thanks to advanced technology, can easily meet significant ventilation needs.

Installing a ductless hood is often the only feasible way to remove moisture and impurities from the kitchen. This is common in multi-family buildings where an additional ventilation duct has not been provided.

Many people choose a ductless hood because they prefer a design without visible ducts running from the hood. In such cases, a recirculating hood, which typically takes up less space, is the preferred option.

A significant number of available kitchen hoods can operate in two modes, either open or closed. Only a portion of devices function exclusively as recirculating hoods or only as extraction hoods.

Ductless Hood as a Decorative Lamp

Such aesthetics are rarely found among extraction hoods, which require a duct connection to a ventilation channel. Ductless hoods shaped like stylish lamps are one of the main reasons some users choose them.

Island Hood Globalo Serina 60.3 black

Globalo Serina Island Hood is available in white or black. The white version is perfect for a Scandinavian-style kitchen, while the black version complements a chic glamour kitchen.

The Serina hood is mounted on three steel cables, which allow for height adjustment (50-200 cm). It has a unique and original shape, reminiscent of a snail shell in cross-section. The absence of ventilation ducts makes the hood very light and space-saving, enhancing the sense of spaciousness.

The designers have paid attention to every detail of the Serina hood, and the engineers have provided it with a highly specialised interior. Externally, it features durable, white tempered glass and modern laminate. Inside, it houses a powerful motor (350 m3/h), energy-saving Power LED lighting, and a multi-layered, reinforced aluminium filter.

Angled Ductless Hood

If you have planned a wall-mounted hood in your kitchen, consider an angled hood, as it pairs well without ducts and functions as a recirculating hood.

Globalo Larto 60.3 White Kitchen Hood

Globalo Larto Angled Hood is a sleek device made of stainless steel and black tempered glass. The model shown is nearly 60 cm wide and has an output of 515 m3/h. The Larto hood features a simple, timeless design that complements elegant kitchens.

We recommend using specialised cleaning products for black tempered glass to keep it smooth, glossy, and durable. For this, we suggest Berner Active Spray. It leaves no streaks and has anti-static properties.

LED lighting makes cooking enjoyable and provides an additional light source in the kitchen.

Countertop Ductless Hood

As an excellent alternative to hanging hoods, we present the Bora Basic countertop hood. This is a ductless hood integrated with the hob.

Ductless Countertop Hood

This is an innovative approach to dealing with moisture, unpleasant odours, harmful substances, and grease. The recirculating hood is located at the source, so it captures them before they spread through the room.

The hob is made of SCHOTT ceramic, renowned worldwide for its durability and resistance. It allows for bridge zones, making it easy to use pots and pans of various sizes. Additionally, Bora Basic detects pan sizes.

A ductless hood integrated with the hob is an option for modern and conscious users who love innovation.

Ceiling-Mounted Ductless Hood

Ceiling hoods, as the name suggests, are mounted in the ceiling. They can often operate as recirculating hoods or be connected to ventilation.

Globalo Bardot Ceiling Hood measures 100/50 cm and, when installed in the kitchen, also serves as an elegant, modern lamp. It is made of white lacquered steel and white tempered glass, providing an additional source of energy-efficient light.

The hood is controlled via remote. The Bardot hood can work with an external motor. When the motor is placed outside the kitchen (in the garage, attic, or basement), the hood's operation is characterised only by the gentle hum of air being drawn in.

Ductless Hood - Summary

  • A ductless hood operates in a closed system, functioning as a recirculating hood

  • Most kitchen hoods can function as recirculating hoods (a separate carbon filter must be purchased)

  • Some kitchen hoods (e.g., decorative hanging island hoods) operate exclusively as recirculating hoods

  • Ductless hoods do not require ducting to a ventilation channel

  • To ensure proper operation of recirculating hoods, carbon filters should be replaced every 3-6 months
