Telescopic hood or built-in hood? Which is better?

A telescopic cooker hood is a device that has many fans. It takes up little space, and most of it is hidden in the cabinet, making it easy to match with various kitchen designs. Is it worth investing in, or is it better to consider an alternative solution? Read this article to find out the answer.

Telescopic cooker hood — what makes it special?

What distinguishes a telescopic cooker hood from other hoods is primarily its design. It has a drawer that slides out over the hob after cooking. This type of cooker hood can operate in two modes:

  • as an extractor,

  • as a recirculation hood.

An extractor hood requires connection to ventilation. It draws in vapours and expels them outside, while also capturing grease particles to help keep kitchen cabinets and the surrounding area cleaner. A recirculation hood doesn’t need to be connected to ventilation. Instead, you need to install carbon filters that will cleanse the air of unpleasant odours.

Most of the telescopic hood is concealed within the kitchen cabinetry, with only the front panel and control buttons visible. Many people appreciate this option because it makes the hood easy to operate while allowing it to seamlessly blend with the kitchen’s design. In some models, pulling out the drawer automatically turns on the hood and lighting, making it possible to start the appliance with a single motion.

How to operate a telescopic cooker hood?

Cooker hoods available on the market are equipped with various control systems. The most common ones are:

  • touch control — often referred to as Touch Control. Simply touch the surface lightly to activate the desired option.

  • button control — the hood features traditional buttons that are easy to feel and intuitive to use.

  • knob control — involves gently turning a round knob to the left or right.

  • remote control — allows the hood to be operated from a distance using a remote.

The telescopic cooker hood GLOBALO Wineter features touch control. It is available in two colour options — white and black. It is equipped with energy-efficient lighting that illuminates the work area. It is made of tempered glass and steel, making it a great choice for those who value elegant appliances.

Telescopic or built-in hood?

Customers often hesitate between choosing a telescopic hood or a built-in insert. Increasingly, the latter is preferred. Why? Built-in cooker hoods usually have more powerful motors, making them better suited for larger and open kitchens. Moreover, contrary to popular belief, the extendable part of telescopic hoods does not increase the capture area. Vapours and grease can only be drawn in by the section with the motor directly above the hob. Additionally, dirt can accumulate in the tracks of telescopic hoods. Another reason that favours built-in hoods is their quieter operation, providing greater comfort when spending time in the kitchen.

What to consider when choosing a cooker hood?

Whether you’re planning to buy a telescopic hood or a built-in one for your kitchen, consider the following key points to ensure satisfaction with your decision:

  • performance — how much air the device can filter in one hour. An optimally functioning hood should exchange the air in the room at least 6 times during this time.

  • decibel level — this indicates how quietly the hood should operate. For the comfort of household members, this value should not exceed 50 dB on the first setting.

  • lighting — the best choice is LED lights, which are energy-efficient.

  • dimensions — both telescopic and built-in hoods should fit perfectly into the kitchen cabinet. At GLOBALO, you’ll find hoods in standard sizes that fit most kitchen cabinets.

If you’re considering a cooker hood that can be hidden in a cabinet, we suggest built-in models. In most cases, they outperform telescopic hoods in terms of quality and performance. However, telescopic hoods can be a good option for smaller kitchens where cooking is infrequent.
