Undermount kitchen hoods - small and powerful built-in appliances
Under-Cabinet Kitchen Hoods – Compact and Powerful Built-In Units
Under-cabinet kitchen hoods are installed in a cabinet above the hob. Their size is adapted to the dimensions of the hob and cabinet, and they come in widths ranging from 50 to 80 cm. If you are looking for such a unit, this article is for you.
Compact Size
When you install a built-in hood in a cabinet above the stove, it will remain almost invisible. Only the control buttons will be visible from below the cabinet. The smooth surface of the hood is easy to clean, and the metal filter is easy to remove. This is important as it should be cleaned roughly once a month.
The space in the cabinet above and next to built-in kitchen hoods can be used for storing additional accessories, as they are no more than a few dozen centimetres high. They weigh from a few to several kilograms, making them convenient for transport.
Powerful Motors
Our main goal was to create a built-in kitchen hood that is both efficient and quiet. We achieved this through a smart move. We decided to slightly reduce the motor power on the initial speed, which is most commonly used in the kitchen. Thanks to this, with an initial efficiency of 200 m3/h, our hoods operate at below 50 dB. It turns out this was the right direction.
GLOBALO hood users appreciate them mainly for these two features: efficiency and quiet operation. Of course, noise levels will increase slightly at higher speeds and with the booster function, but this is understandable since the device must filter the accumulated dirty air quickly.
In the Globalo Loteo hood, we have used a powerful motor with an efficiency of 640 m3/h. Four speed levels allow full adjustment of the extraction intensity. It’s an example of a unit that, despite its small size, has quite large capabilities. It can successfully filter dirty air even from large spaces and kitchens open to the living room.
Good Design
Under-cabinet kitchen hoods are made of high-quality materials. Tempered glass, stainless steel, and lacquered steel – these materials allow you to enjoy a good appliance for many years. They are the starting point for our designers, who use them to create kitchen hoods that are comparable to the best global designs straight from Italy or Spain. And they have an advantage – they are more affordable.
Modern kitchen cabinetry requires equipment that meets its design requirements. The cheapest hoods are usually visually unattractive, and even a novice in this field will notice this. We made sure to offer equipment that is reasonably priced and also simply looks good and is pleasing to the eye.
The black Globalo Silentio hood looks good in cabinetry with wood-effect finishes as well as among white cabinets. The energy-efficient LED strip creates a cosy atmosphere during cooking. The hood is light (6.35 kg), works with an external attic motor, and can be controlled by a remote.
Quiet Under-Cabinet Kitchen Hoods
What’s the use of a hood that you won’t turn on because of the annoying, loud motor noise? Our priority was to provide devices that don’t irritate.
The Globalo Delico under-cabinet hood is a slightly cheaper option, but not without its advantages. Quiet operation (from only 47 dB) encourages regular and frequent use, ensuring the air in the kitchen is always filtered while cooking. Users often report that they rarely turn on their kitchen hood because it’s too loud. That’s why we decided to develop models that operate below 50 dB.
Extractors and Recirculators
When choosing an under-cabinet kitchen hood, you can decide whether it will be an extractor or a recirculator. The first must be connected via a pipe to an external exhaust duct. Water vapour and dirty air are then removed outside the kitchen. If you have this option, always connect the hood to ventilation. It will work more efficiently and quietly. An extractor operates only with a metal filter (usually aluminium), which consists of multi-layer meshes that trap dirt. This filter should be cleaned regularly.
In the case of a recirculator, air circulates in a closed loop. This means a carbon filter, which must be additionally installed, purifies the air of unpleasant odours but does not remove it outside the kitchen. The air returns cleaned. Remember to regularly replace carbon filters to maintain the hood's effectiveness. This should be done on average every 3 months. Always select the carbon filter that matches the specific hood model.
A carbon filter can come in the form of a cassette or a round canister. The one above, the ASC 450 carbon filter, is compatible, for example, with the Globalo Insolita built-in hood. The set includes 2 units, which are installed on both sides of the motor housing.
Globalo Under-Cabinet Kitchen Hoods
Globalo built-in units are ideal for users who dream of invisible equipment integrated into kitchen cabinetry. Let’s summarise the key information about these devices:
- they can operate as extractors or recirculators
- they have powerful motors (efficiency up to 640 m3/h)
- they operate quietly (sound levels on initial speeds do not exceed 50 dB)
- they are durable (made from quality materials resistant to moisture and high temperatures)
- they are well designed (we treat design as equally important as functionality)
- they have energy-saving lighting (LED diodes or strips that reduce electricity bills)
